Bazardžani Street is located in the central part of the Old Town, on the southern side of Baščaršija.

It was thanks to the public works commissioned by Isa Bey Isaković, the founder of Sarajevo, that the street was laid out. Some of the other structures that Isa Bey commissioned include: Careva Džamija (the Emperor's Mosque), Careva Ćuprija (the Emperor’s Bridge) and Kolobara Han (guesthouse). Although this street was laid out when Sarajevo was founded in 1462, it wasn’t until the Austro-Hungarian period that it was given the name Bazardžani Street, after the merchants (bazardžani) who specialized in importing and trading mostly manufactured goods from the Orient.
