Its construction began in the second half
of 16th century, two centuries after arrival
of Sephardic Jews, after their exile from
Spain. The synagogue is today's museum
which preserves testimonies over their
arrival and life in Bosnia and Herzegovina,
and holocaust they suffered during the
World War II.
Still, the most important Jewish cultural monument and
document is Sarajevan Hagada, which is in collection
of the Earth Museum in Sarajevo.
